5 Tips to Stay Healthy this Holiday

The holidays are a symbol of hope and possibility. There are so many wonderful sights, sounds, and SMELLS! I love this time of year! There is a magical feeling surrounding the holiday season.

I don't know about anyone else but my gut after "letting go for once" during one holiday taught me a valuable lesson; my body is not one of the magical things about the holidays.

We look forward to the holidays to unwind or take a break from our normal lives. We may not consider that wellness is NOT one of the things we need a break from. In fact, it is more important than ever. After spending the first few weeks following that faithful holiday realigning my gut health, I had to create some tricks to survive the next holiday.

  1. Hydrate

It seems simple and it is! You should increase your water intake because of the increased alcohol consumption or changes to your normal diet. Water keeps your kidneys healthy and allows the body to be able to handle the changes.

2. Pace Yourself

The food is delicious and it's very hard when your heart feels so full that your stomach starts to get jealous and wants to catch up. The thing is you don't need to eat everything in sight as quickly as you can to sing the food's praises. Eating slowly and chewing properly helps you to stay within healthy limits with food. Choose your drinks carefully and do not be pressured. Eat and drink the things that align with your wellness. goals

3. Stay Active

Whether you are out of town or away from home, it can be hard to stick to your fitness routine. Guess what though? You can switch some items for high-intensity ones. There are quite a few exercises that don't need all the equipment and can be done indoors or outdoors. Remember to be involved if there are games like football or races and dance whenever you get the chance!

4. Be Timely

Timing is key, Eating healthy and well-timed snacks can help you to stay in control of your meals and appetite. Try to stick to your regular meal times as much as possible especially if you are away from home.

5. Have fun

The holidays are all about good vibes, love, and connecting with family or friends. Mental wellness is just as important as physical. Enjoy yourself!

New Years Resolutions

At our practice, we specialize in Holistic health. That is, we focus on all aspects concerning your health. A lot of people will find themselves falling ill because of unfulfilled plans they had for their lives that they really wanted to achieve and haven't. There are a lot of negative emotions focused on themself and these emotions over time lead to physical health issues.

There is good news though. We can help you to achieve your goals. Let's look at some goal success boosters:

When to Set Your Goal

Timing is everything. The moment you decide that you HAVE to make a change is crucial not only because of the realization but the significance of the moment itself. When d0 you decide this and why?

It's easier to make the changes that you want in your life at a milestone significant to you. For example birthdays, holidays, or new terms. The beginning of a new year is one of the best change trigger moments significant to anyone. The New Year is a fresh start. It's a great time to initiate a big change in your life.

Think realistically

No, this does not mean to dream small. Dream as big as you can! Just remember that you need to get from where you are now to your big dream.

For example, if you say you want to become a pop star by trying out for a huge talent show. What is your talent? Have you recorded yourself performing and watched/ or listened to it? What preparations will you have to make? Will your network be made up of supportive and honest people who will help you to grow? Are you open to feeling uncomfortable or vulnerable in order to grow?

Consider all the steps needed to get you to where you want to be. You'll know you are ready for the change when you spend time executing steps to achieve your goal.

Get the right help from beginning to end

If you want to start a business, you can get help from your friend who did Business in school. Of course! However, have they ever established or maintained a successful business? There is a saying "the blind cannot lead the blind", it simply means if you want to get somewhere and need help, then you should get it from someone who has the knowledge and most importantly the tool or expertise to help you. The best tool you can have in your support system is experience. Study from the masters of the change you want, be patient and choose a mentor that's right for you. The person should be kind and want you to win as much or even more than you do.

This also ties to being realistic. If you want to lose weight but do not want to change your diet, you need a special program designed for what you are willing to do and change. Or you need to know more about the food you eat. The more you find out about your "favourite food", the easier it may be for you to adjust.

Get a support network

Okay, this one can get tricky. How do know who to trust? You may feel uncomfortable sharing your dreams and goals. This is where healing comes in, you need to shed all the negativity so you can make better decisions and see who is in your corner. Negative emotions create stories around persons, groups or, even yourself. A good support network is one where you can be vulnerable and respected for living your truth. They will have your back and always push you in the right direction.

Be ready

What would it mean to you if you achieved your goal? What would your life look like? Write that down, memorize it, look at it, and remind yourself everyday of the outcome you want.
